Your laws, my command
You are my God, the only One.
Your name is my breath, dream, thought – I know none else.
None I own, though I’ve toiled and gathered.
Sabbath has been a day of the Lord, save countable compulsions.
Death of people tears my spirit deep.
I return my debt twice the measure.
I live in melancholy for the wrongs of my youth.
I am on the stands for my pursuit of perfection.
I rejoice in my neighbour’s prosperity.
I, though faltering, pray for my neighbour’s spouse.
Rejected, Lonely, Unloved –
With loyal love of God,
Unconditional love of all but self.
The road ahead I see with blinkers
Love for self, appetite for every joy,
Toil for indulgence, end to mortality with fulfillment.
The journey is enjoyable, lacking regret.
Show us, Him that made us, the final destination –
That its lush fields breed immortal life, unfailing bliss;
Its scathing flames engulf evil, with gnashing of teeth.
